Day 4 - Wrap Up > a day of 'zero's"

We finally got tied up at Discovery Harbour marina , the one run by local First Nations, at 6:30. It was a long 11 hours of motoring, the last 2 hours had their drama!

Zero #1: virtually no sailing hours today
Zero #2: we arrived at Discovery passage at nearly the full flood ( flood direction is south up hear) and at many points we were making 6 kts in the water but 0 overground. We had to cross the current to make some movement in order to avoid an outbound log boom. By the time that was over and we crossed back to the shallow water ( and somewhat slower current) we had done a circle over ground and gone backwards!

Zero #3: when we finally made the marina I radioed  to confirm what side of A slip we were on. Answer ( after a too long pause was 'south'). This put us between a dock and the rock barrier; as we got into this narrow piece of water it was obvious that (a) the slip # we were given was on the other side- and occupied; these slips were only about 20' long. I had to do a 180 turn using forward/reverse and at one point we had 0 depth under the keel, but no contact. Radio again and we were given new slip # I7.

Zero #4: little room to manouver as our slip was beside a large power boat at the end of the slip; again we had to back up to get the bow turned into the slip.

We had a quick on-board happy hour then went for dinner, NOT cooked by me which made it taste even better.

Later we had a prime seat to watch the Canada Day fireworks; some of the crew were already asleep before the big show.
